About

Hej! I’m Malin, the person behind Plan and Escape. I’m an experience-loving Finn who could talk all day about sauna culture and why Fazer chocolate is one of the best snacks in the world. I’m currently based in Denmark but my heart lives in a dozen places. I’m a content creator, visual storyteller and full-time travel romantic with a serious weakness for strong coffee, thrifting, dogs and beautiful little moments.

Rocky start…

Plan and Escape started as a creative side project in 2020. Just as the world shut down. While we were all stuck inside, I was busy daydreaming escapes from my apartment in Copenhagen. At first, it was just a personal mood board (read: how to survive a global pandemic). A digital drawer for travel tips, hidden gems around the globe, boutique hotel crushes, photo obsessions and thoughts no one in my real life necessarily asked for but here we are.

While the world was shrinking, Plan and Escape was born. A creative survival tactic turned into a travel philosophy. A bad map that leads to a good story. Today it is a travel and photography blog for curious souls, beauty seekers and story lovers.

A tale of big dreams and meaningful adventures.

WHY PLAN AND ESCAPE?

The name comes from the song Escape by Rupert Holmes.

You know, the one about piña coladas and getting caught in the rain? Part cheeky Bumble reference and daydream-fueled idea, part eternal craving for adventure. I’m still single. Still searching for great stories, unexpected gems and my next great escape.

Plan and Escape is about that spirit of serendipity: equal parts plan and possibility. A little bit dreamy, a little bit geeky, always curious.

Travel more

As a child, I loved coloring books and puzzles. Anything that combined beauty with structure. That love evolved into a fascination with facades, design and the joy of capturing the world through a lens. Today, this blog is where I pour all of that inspiration: places I’ve loved, the ones still calling to me and everything in between.

I believe travel isn’t just about checking places off a list. It’s about connection, having fun and explore. That’s why I focus on slow travel that respects local culture, embraces everyday magic and encourages meaningful experiences. Whether you’re planning a city escape, a scenic road trip or simply daydreaming from home. I hope my stories and guides help you inspire something beautiful and real.

…travel differently

I’m passionate about sustainably and thoughtful travelling, no matter the budget. I want to show that conscious travel is possible for everyone through personal stories, slow itineraries, and real tips. Because I truly believe we must keep discovering the world to understand what’s worth protecting.

I create slow, sensorial, story-driven guides for travelers who want to feel a place before they even arrive. If you are into: Find the best thrift store inside an old cinema? Take your morning coffee on a castle staircase? Discover that the real gem in town is a local library with the perfect reading chair? I want you to fall in love in places you didn’t knew existed. Because real travel begins way before the airport, when a photo stirs something in you or a scent brings up a place you’ve never been.

My favourite things

The vibe

Plan and Escape is a creative travel journal, a mood board and a space for slow discovery. Perfect for the adventurous, independent and design-oriented traveler. The one who’s always chasing hidden gems, wine spots and that perfectly imperfect plate of food.

I started this blog for two reasons: First, to create a place where I can store all my memories and photos captured. Second, to share my favourite design destinations and interesting travel experience with like-minded people. To encourage you to follow your dreams and explore more – yes, I have a few curated city guides for you.

I am a huge over-planner and am always willing to spend my life savings on my next adventure. I’m also one of those people who has everywhere on their list. I don’t limit myself to tropical island escapes or buy into big-brand hotel chains. I want to travel well, and I want to do it with awareness – culturally, environmentally and emotionally. And I try to balance it all – traveling often, saving where I can, building my career and keeping a social life. One snack and spreadsheet at a time.

When I am not traveling or working you can find me running around Copenhagen, dining at new hotspots, trying out a well-designed chair, being a couch potato and catching up on my tv shows, shopping at second hand stores, or channeling my hygge lifestyle.

Expect to escape into a world of:

Personal destination guides

I walk the streets, stroll through dreamy gardens, find flea market detours, talk to locals, taste everything, and build itineraries that make emotional and geographical sense.

Everything I write and curate here is done by me and based on our my trips and personal experiences. No filler. No fluff. Just real places that left a mark.

And whenever I find that unique boutique hotel, delicious restaurant or I experience something special, I love to share these tips with you. Therefor you can be sure that all recommendations are based on my personal experiences.

Occasionally I daydream about destination I haven’t been to yet – but I will make sure you can tell.

I love photography and I try to capture the spirit of places. Keep in mind that all photographs are by me (if nothing else stated in the post) so please ask before copying for own use.

Why this place?

Are you interested in the world? Do you want to learn more about a country and its culture?

My trips are rooted in authentic culture and inspired by sustainable travel. It’s one of the main reasons why I love travelling and how I get inspired to visit new places.

Why here? Each beautiful route is designed with care and coherence. Beauty heals people.

I go wherever curiosity takes me. Whether that’s cooking out of a van, staying in a quirky family-run B&B or sipping cava on a rooftop.

I hope that Plan and Escape will encourage travelers to wandering off the beaten path, having more local experiences, and choosing more ethical and environmentally-conscious tour operators, accommodation options, and travel excursions.

Beautiful architecture and designs

I have had an obsession with architecture as long as I can remember. I was one of those kids that spent hours designing houses in The Sims. In a way, my trips might be slightly design-led. I believe that design can influence recovery. Being surrounded by natural light, mosaics, art and carefully considered details affects our overall wellbeing. I do get a kick out of new design discoveries – and for sure gets me in a better mood.

And… a lot of Copenhagen-content because it gets my heart raising.

Occasional ramblings about…

Libraries and books

I’ve been a book worm since the day I first read the Harry Potter books. It really sparked something in me. Maybe it was the magic? There is nothing more I love than a good story. So this is for my love of storytelling and navigating through different cultures.

Also, I am on a mission to read more and scroll less.

Cafés and pastries

What can I say, I love coffee.

I love nothing more than finding a good cafe in a new city. From traditional ones that have been around for decades to new, trendy ones.

I am a coffee addict but I have been replacing my first cup with matcha lately.

Plants

Solo trip memories

Thanks for stopping by my little corner of travel chaos. I really appreciate it!

I’m really hoping that my photos, stories and tips will inspire you to plan some amazing trips all over the world. …explore my home home town Copenhagen along with the most beautiful destinations around the world that I won’t stop talking about. I’d love to hear about it!

Come for the xx, stay for the vibe.
